Day Two: Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

To break up the drive down, we decided to spend a day at Six Flags in Vallejo. It was a bit chilly outside which worked out well for us - no lines! We pretty much had the place to ourselves most of the day. Jadyn was a good sport about not being able to ride everything that Kaylee did (in fact, she would giggle just watching her sissy on them) - that is, until we walked them both up to the elephant ride and they turned little Jadyn away. Oh, did we have some tears (and some major "air kicking" - her favorite move when I try to pick her up in the middle of one of her tantrums.) Luckily I saw a nearby playground that kept her busy until Sissy was done!

Josh especially picked this place for something he knew Kaylee would be super excited about: Thomas Town! As most of you know, our sweet little girl has a bit of a tomboy streak... and she was in heaven as soon as she stepped inside. I'm a little surprised we were able to pull her out of the blue room! Of course, the highlight was actually getting to ride Thomas! She also got meet Sir Topham Hatt and ride Harold the Helicopter and Bertie the Bus.
The girls also got to meet all the Loony Tunes characters. After watching a little show, they spent 15 minutes dancing around with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. And Kaylee had many stories to tell them! The only character they were not so sure about was the Tasmanian Devil. Jadyn took one look at him and ran back to Tweety.

We were also surprised just how much they had for animal life. In addition to the shows (not quite Sea World, but still fun) the girls also got to feed the giraffes and we all rode an elephant! Trust me, you don't realize how big those things are until you're on top of one looking down at the ground! It was definitely fun though, and worth the extra money.

After Six Flags, we drove to San Francisco for dinner at Bubba Gumps on Pier 39. The seafood was amazing and the girls loved watching the ships pass us by while we ate! Afterwards, the girls got to ride the double decker carousel and watch the sea lions. Then we were off to stay the night in Monterey. Josh decided he wanted to take the "scenic" route (not sure why since it was almost dark) and somehow we ended up 90 minutes northeast of San Francisco! This will be the first of two detours we take on the trip. Stay tuned.

Tip: If you go to Discovery Kingdom... buy your tickets online. Everyone pays the child price. Saved us $30!
