Have I mentioned my little love affair with kids birthday parties? I could spend hours just swooning over party blogs like this, and this, and this. The vibrant colors, over-the-top decorations, and sugar-loaded dessert tables kinda make my heart skip a beat. Oh the things I would do if I had an unlimited supply of cash and time!
Since I was short on both, I had to get a bit creative. A while back I showed Kaylee and Jadyn this rainbow polka-dot birthday party on HowDoesShe.com (an adorable blog ran by some amazingly-talented local mamas) and they were smitten. Mix that with their love for tea parties and we had our theme. I decided to make the majority of the decorations myself a la my laptop, Cricut, and rarely-used scrapbooking supplies. Super cheap and easy!

These colorburst cupcakes took a little time, but totally worth it when I saw the grins on all those little faces when they bit into them and discovered the rainbow goodness inside. Thanks to Our Best Bites (love, love this blog!) for the inspiration and the recipe for yummy vanilla flour frosting. I may never go back to buttercream icing again! (And if you haven't checked out this blog before - you need to! Everything I've made off there has been amazing. Plus one of the girls who runs it just happens to be a Boise mama, which makes her extra cool in my book. :-) )
We started off with the teaparty. Kaylee was happy to take on the responsibility of "tea" pourer. But by the 20th request for a refill, she put her little hands out and in true 5-year-old dramatic fashion, shouted "You guys - no more tea! I need to eat my food!" Ah, our little Kaylee is always good for a laugh. After their bellies were full and primed for a sugar-overload, they played "freeze dance" with balloons, listened to the book "Miss Spider's Tea Party" and made chocolate/sprinkle covered marshmallow pops. Followed by cupcakes and presents of course. :-)

Baby Ty was sweet as always and didn't seem to mind the 4 hours (yes, 4!) worth of giggles and squeals. Don't worry little man, Mommy has been storing away a few boy party ideas, just for you.

Happy Birthday to my two beautiful little girls, I hope you enjoyed your day!
