So I know we were only at the hospital for 32 hours, but I'm still so happy to be home! Baby Tyler is an absolute angel and I can't help but just snuggle him all day long. I sure hope he doesn't get sick of Mommy's kisses because I just can't seem to resist those little cheeks! (And I do mean little... I didn't even know I could produce small babies! :-)) Despite his size, he is a very healthy and happy baby - and perfect in every way!
Even though the delivery was a bit tough, I really couldn't have asked for a better labor. I think it helped knowing how things went with Jadyn because we knew exactly how we didn't want things to go. And it was great to have a nurse who listened to us (even if she didn't always believe us.... but more on that later.)
We checked into the hospital at 7am and by 8:30 the nurse had started the Pitocin and had me geared up with a portable IV cart and monitors to walk the halls. (Darn it - so much for laboring in bed while watching a movie!) I told the nurse I thought I would have the baby by 2:00. At this point, I think she still had a little faith it might be possible, but when I was still smiling 3 hours later, she was not so convinced. :-)
At 11:30, Dr. Minge came in and broke my water - at the time I was only dilated to a 3. Things started to progress pretty quickly after that and my contractions started getting stronger and stronger. I wanted to hold out a bit longer for an epidural but given how quickly things went with Jadyn, I decided to listen to Josh. He called in the nurses and had them turn up my fluids and call the anesthesiologist who came around 12:30. I remember her making a comment like "Oh good, I'm glad you decided to get it early this time" and I could tell Josh and I were thinking the same thing - "not as early as you think it is!"
Around 1:15 my nurse checked me again and I had progressed to a 6. I looked up at the clock and then smiled at her "Yep, I think we're still good for 2:00." She just laughed. "Well, I wouldn't get your hopes up too much, it's usually about a centimeter an hour." 15 minutes later I called her back into the room - yep, I was complete! She stepped out to call the Dr. and at that point I knew the baby was on his way. Josh pushed the call button and told them the baby was coming. 2 seconds later the doors burst open with a room full of nurses and the on-call doctor. Luckily Dr. Minge's office was right across the street!
After 30 minutes of pushing (the baby's head was turned and the cord wrapped around his neck which complicated things) our little guy was here. As they put him on my chest I looked up at the clock and started laughing - it was exactly 2:00! See... my little boy is already listening to his mama. I think it's a good sign. :-)
