Shawn's Deployment

It's hard to believe it's that time again already, but yesterday my brother Shawn deployed for his second war tour, this time to Afghanistan. My parents threw a barbecue for him this weekend so we got to spend some time with him then, but I wasn't able to go to his actual deployment this time, so I included some pictures from last year. (Notice my pregnant belly!)

Shawn is in the Air Guard so their tours are fairly short (45-60 days) but I'm sure we'll still all be holding our breaths until he's home safely. It sure does make the war feel closer to home! Shawn, I hope you know how proud we all are of you and how thankful we are that there are people like you to keep us safe. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you each day. See you soon little brother!

A prayer for my brother, the Soldier

He is just a soldier, Father,
Committed to his task,
Hear the cries of our family's hearts,
This is all we ask.

Hold him in your loving arms,
Each and every day
Keep him safe, away from harm
While he's so far away

Help him to be brave, oh Lord
Please keep him from the fear,
Let his aim be accurate
His mission crystal clear

Let your love shine down on him,
On the nights he feels alone,
And keep our love inside his heart
Until the day they bring him home.

I know exactly how you feel. Our Prayers are with you and your family.
My brother-in-law just got back after being gone for a year on his Second tour in KUWAIT. He is with the Army. He missed his son's whole first year of life. He almost didn't get to see him be born before he left for his tour. I know god has your brother in his hands and will keep him safe.
