My Little Big Girl

Today was a first for me in Mommyhood - parent/teacher conferences! I was so excited to finally know how Kaylee was doing in class... it's been such a strange experience for me to just drop her off and pick her up 2 1/2 hours later with not much more than "she had a great day!"

When I walked into the classroom, Miss Jennie pulled out Kaylee's folder and with a big smile and a little laugh said "So does Kaylee keep you guys on your toes?" Oh boy does she ever! She told me that Kaylee is the little social butterfly of the class (not super surprised on that one, the girl doesn't have a shy bone in her body!) She also told me that Josh and I would be in trouble one day with her - "cute, popular and smart... that's a dangerous combination." Ha - don't we know it! Oh, and the boys seem to love her. Greeeaaaattt. :-) (When Kaylee showed her school picture to my parents, my dad pointed to the boys and said "which one is your boyfriend?" Her reply? "All of them!") I also had a mom come up to me the other day and say "I don't know if this is possible, but I'm pretty sure my son has a crush on your daughter!" Let me just tell you, I am not looking to the boy crazy days... someone please tell me they're far, far away??

I am so, so glad that Kaylee has Miss Jennie for her teacher. Kaylee is a bit of a free spirited kid, and likes to talk - a lot. Which could definitely be a disastrous combination when it comes to school! I brought this up to Jennie and she said "Oh yes, but I'm kind of free-spirited myself and I like to talk too... so we get along great!" haha :-) Kaylee just adores her and is having so much fun. I can't say enough great things about the program.

I also got to see how Kaylee did on the testing they did in October. She did GREAT! I was actually surprised at a few of things she knew that I had no idea of. She apparently surprised Miss Jennie too, especially with her letters and sounds (writing, recognizing, etc.) Of course there were also a few answers that just cracked me up:

Q: "What's your name?" A: Kaylee. "What's your last name?" A: Umm I don't have one. But my middle name is Maree!
Q: "What's your phone number." A: (With a completely confused look) "Miss Jennie, I don't have a phone!" (I asked Kaylee later why she said that and she said, "Well, I DON'T have a phone. You have one and Daddy has one, but mine is pretend!"
Q: What's your address? A: "Ustick and Linder." (Don't ask me how she knows the intersection of our subdivision!)
Q: Say the pledge of allegiance: "Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United State of America. For which it stands - And that's the end!" (she the last part too! haha)
