Oh Sweet Baby Blue!

So by now I'm sure you've all seen the news on my Facebook page, but since I started this thing as a "family journal" of sorts... I thought I should make it official on here! It's been over a week since we heard the news and I have to tell you... I'm still a little in shock.

A little background on the ultrasound: we were originally scheduled for Monday, November 9th. That morning we got a call from the Dr.'s office saying that the Ultrasound Tech had a sick baby at home and we would have to reschedule. We were so sad! Up until that day I had been pretty good about keeping my "anxiousness" in check, but by then I was just ready to KNOW already! Josh and I still went in for my appointment hoping that the Dr. might just do a quick ultrasound for us, but no such luck. I told her that I was worried Josh wouldn't be able to make it in time for the one we had scheduled for the next day (I had to beg them just to get it that soon!) so the two of them decided that we should hold off until the following Monday. Wait?? A week?? I looked at him and with about 60% seriousness asked "can't I just do it by myself and tell you on the phone??" haha I know, I know... but mama didn't want to wait any longer! I suppose I should be thankful for a sweet husband who cares enough to really want to be there. And luckily for us, Josh got off just in time the next day so we wouldn't have to reschedule.

Oh, and did I mention that on Sunday night I BURNT my belly?? Seriously, who does that? And the day before their big ultrasound no less? I swear I am a walking talking disaster... and the belly just adds to the misery. I was cooking Cream of What in the microwave and pulled it out to stir (I thought it would have set up by then) and it spilt right on top of my very round belly and ultra thin tank top forming a bright red six inch burn above my belly button. A couple hours before the big reveal I was staring down at this massive spot upside down and decided that it looked like a dinosaur. Maybe it was a sign?? :-)

Here's a couple pics from his big debut:

I love this one because it totally looked like he was flexing his muscles for us. He is his father's son!

Yep, pretty sure that's not the umbilical cord!

We are all SO excited! Truthfully, we would have been happy either way (I mean, we do produce some pretty cute little girls afterall!) but I can't wait to have a little "mama's boy" all of my own! And I know Josh will have fun playing catch in the backyard with him and teaching him all the "guy stuff" (though I'm guessing my little girls will also be right by his side learning how to fix boats, mow the lawn, and build things!) Kaylee may just be the most excited of all of us. Before we were even pregnant she had been praying for a little brother. I kept trying to tell her that it could be a little girl to which she would reply "No Mommy, I already HAVE a little sister, and I want to keep her!" When I picked her up from school after the ultrasound, I bent down and whispered it in her ear. Her face just lit up and she gave me the biggest hug. Then she turned around to her class and yelled "I'm going to have a little brother!" It was so sweet. (She was a little confused about why he wasn't here yet though!)

WEEK 20 STATS:

Date: November 7th

Weight gained: 6 pounds

Baby: About 6 inches long and 9 ounces. His ears are well developed and is starting to hear sounds. He also has regular periods of wakefulness and sleep and can make a variety of faces.

Movement: Well "they" say that by now babies can recognize Mommy's voice and he must have heard me tell Dr. Minge that his movements didn't seem as strong as the girls, because ever since then he has been moving like crazy! The Tech kept laughing at how active he was - I told her my babies start out like that in the womb and never stop moving once they're out! He especially likes to kick when I lay down to go to sleep. Just preparing me for the months ahead I suppose (oh sleep, how I will miss you!)

Cravings: No really strong cravings yet. Just a lot of fruit - which is, of course, out of season right now! I have a few random cravings - crepes, Mexican food, pickles, and pumpkin pie. (Thankfully not all at once.) :-)
The Belly: Yay - I'm finally starting to look pregnant (and less like I just had a lot to eat for lunch!) I actually had the first person notice in a store the other day and his comment totally took me by surprise. I was so used to people being shocked when I said something. Of course, I am still at that "in between" stage where my real clothes are starting to get to tight but maternity clothes look a tent. I have exactly one pair of jeans that fits me which has resulted in a whole lot of laundry and wearing sweats around home. I am missing my super cute summer maternity wardrobe right now!

I am already getting so excited to shop for our little man! I'm not sure if it's just because I've been confined to once section of the baby stores, but baby boy clothes are CUTE. I was half tempted to put the entire newborn section of babygap.com into my shopping cart. Amazingly, I've only bought him one little outfit so far (if you don't count the few little pieces I tucked away "just in case") but did splurge on this on babysteals.com:
Aden and Anais "Dream Blanket"

To be honest, I really have no idea what the big hype is about these, but I just couldn't resist finding out. People were literally stalking the website for these to come up as the "steal" of the day. I'm also already scoping out my first pair of boy pedipeds:

Oh yes, I think those will do.
