Well, it's official... my sweet little Kaylee is really a big girl! This week marked a couple of exciting firsts for her: preschool and ballet. Yesterday was her first day of Joy School. For those who are curious, it's a Preschool Co-op (with a fully planned curriculum - thank goodness!) that I'm doing with three other moms. The girls have all been friends from our MOMS Club for a couple years now, which makes it so nice... and the fact that I'm close friends with the other moms doesn't hurt either! :-) Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-12 and we each teach one week a month. It's called Joy School because the central belief of the program is that children, while in their most impressionable years, should be taught life's most important thing, various capacities for joy. (They also believe that children suffer not from being started in academic learning too late, but in starting too soon, before they have a basis of social and emotional self-esteem.) The lessons include music, stories, games, and activities to learn and teach one kind of Joy each month. I think it's a great notion and I'm really excited to see how it all pans out. Besides, Kaylee is already too smart for her own good anyway... she is already wanting to learn to read! I'm of course proud of how smart she is, but hope she'll take some time to just be little. It goes so fast.
Kaylee has been excited all summer for "school" to start and could not wait for the day to finally come. She looked like such a big girl in her sweet little outfit and mini princess backpack!

I wasn't sure how the first day would go since the kids are so used to playing at each other's houses for playgroup, but Jensa said they were great! Kaylee loves learning and staying busy - so I'm sure it will be a great thing for her. In fact, it was probably harder for ME to leave her! (Heaven help me on the first day of Kindergarten...) But, it is nice to have that extra time to run errands, etc with only one of the girls to look after and I am excited for Jadyn to have more Mommy time!
-----------Oh, I forgot to mention that there was one thing that Kaylee was a little upset about... the fact that Jadyn couldn't go with her! When I was making the Joy School House she looked at it with a very distraught look on her face and said "Mommy where is Jadyn's picture?" I told her that Jadyn couldn't go to school with her because she was too little and that Jadyn was going to stay with me but that she could play with her when she came home. "No Mommy, I want her to come to school too! And she's not too little... I can help her and teach her!" ------------

Yep, they're a little excited.

So excited to show Mommy everything in her backpack:
The highlight of her day: when Daddy and Grandma called to hear all about it!

Love you big girl! (Just try to slow down this whole growing up thing, okay?)

Yes, yes, Joy School is so blogworthy! I didn't get any pictures though - but I'll try to get some Thursday and post on it. I know it's something we won't want to forget!
OH man! Already in preschool! My friend was trying to get me to put Amaya in this year, and I jsut coudln't do it! She is still so tiny, and I can't imagine her being gone for 3 hours twice a week, just yet. We settled on dance class instead.
My mom did Joy School with her 3 youngest and she loved it! I was just talking to a few of my friends here about it doing it too, so let me know how it goes. Definitely a good premise.
She looks so big, and excited! That backpack is what really makes her look old! I'm with you on the first day of Kindergarten. I'm alreday nervous!
How sweet of her wanting Jadyn to come too, she loves her sister that's for sure!
She is so adorable, and its good for you to get that away time from her, even if its hard at first...it will get better!! :)
She does look so grown up!
